Join SWAM

Becoming an Associate gets you a volunteer Observer, the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Course and a place in a friendly club that rides all year.

The steps

How to join

Rider with thumbs up

Take a taster ride

Optional, but most people start here. A free observed ride tells you far more than any web page can.

Road

Sign up with IAM RoadSmart

Enrol on the Advanced Rider Course through IAM RoadSmart and name SWAM (group 1124) as your local group.

Group ride

Meet your Observer

We pair you with a volunteer Observer near you and you agree dates for your first observed ride.

rider training

Ride and improve

Work through the course at your own pace, then take the advanced test when you and your Observer agree you are ready.

Costs

What it costs

The Advanced Rider Course is bought directly from IAM RoadSmart and includes your course fee, materials and your first test. SWAM charges a small annual group membership on top, which covers club running costs.

Observing is done entirely by volunteers, so you are not paying for tuition by the hour. Fees are confirmed on application, so please check current figures with us.

Questions before you commit?

Ask us anything. We would far rather answer a dozen questions than have you sign up unsure.
