About

We’re riders first

SWAM is a community of motorcyclists brought together by a shared interest in better riding, continued development and enjoying motorcycling with like-minded people. For many of our members, the journey starts with the IAM Advanced Rider Course, but it doesn’t end when the test is passed. SWAM is about continuing to learn, riding together, sharing experience and enjoying the social side of motorcycling too.

What Being Part of SWAM Looks Like

What being part of SWAM looks like

Being part of SWAM is about more than working towards an advanced riding qualification.

It’s about riding with people who share the same enthusiasm, learning from experience, developing your skills over time and enjoying the social side of motorcycling along the way.

From observed rides and rider development to group rides, events, trips and the occasional questionable coffee stop, SWAM gives you a place to keep enjoying your riding long after the test is done.

Where are we?

We’re all over South Wales — from Cardiff to Swansea, up through the Valleys and across some of the best roads Wales has to offer.

Our members and Observers are spread across the region, so wherever you are, there’s a good chance you won’t be far from someone in the SWAM community.

And when we’re not developing skills locally, we’re usually finding an excuse to head further afield in search of great roads, good company and a decent stop for coffee, food or whatever takes your fancy.

About SWAM – Membership

Becoming part of SWAM

The route into SWAM starts with IAM RoadSmart. Sign up for the Advanced Rider Course, complete your observed rides and work towards your Advanced Test. Along the way, you become part of the SWAM community — riding with us, learning with us and getting to know the people behind the group. And once the test is done, there’s no reason for the journey to stop. SWAM is here for continued development, shared experience, ride-outs, events and simply enjoying motorcycling with people who share the same enthusiasm. When you’re ready to take the first step, we’ll point you in the right direction.

Start your journey

Your route into SWAM begins with the IAM Advanced Rider Course. You’ll work with one of our Observers, build confidence and develop the skills that take you towards the Advanced Test.

Pass — then keep progressing

Passing the Advanced Test is something to be proud of, but it doesn’t have to be the end. You can keep developing through opportunities such as F1RST, Fellowship, Observer and Masters — or simply keep your riding sharp.

Keep your skills on point

SWAM runs regular member development sessions where you can refresh skills, explore different riding techniques, ask questions and learn from experienced Observers and fellow members.

Stay part of the community

Ride-outs, social events and time spent with other riders all help keep the learning going. Sometimes the best improvement comes from a good ride, a useful conversation and sharing experience with people who enjoy motorcycling as much as you do.

Let’s go for a ride and get to know each other

The best way to understand SWAM is to experience it for yourself. Book a free observed ride, meet one of the team and see whether what we offer feels right for you.
